Perth Motorplex has announced today that it has been forced to move the Australian Top Fuel Championship round from the first weekend in February to Friday the 30th and Saturday 31st March 2007. Perth Motorplex General Manage, Kevin Prendergast said the Top Fuel teams have had more rounds this season, in a shorter period than previous seasons, which has put a strain on team's resources, especially on parts. A number of teams are waiting on parts from the US however with the US season about to start the lead times on some parts is proving troublesome. "Perth Motorplex rarely changes dates and is well known for its professionalism with regards to its calendar and racing schedule however it would be foolish to run the event without some key Top Fuel teams", said Prendergast. "Changing this date ensures that teams will be ready for the Summernationals at Western Sydney International Dragway in mid February and will guarantee a strong Top Fuel field at the Perth round 6 weeks later on the 30th and 31st of March." "The change was made possible by switching the Nitro Funny Car event from the late March to early February so in the end we are running the same events as planned but we've switched the Top Fuel Dragsters with the Nitro Funny Cars." "The end result is positive because we have been able to switch the two events around thanks to cooperation of many racers including the Nitro Funny cars who were able to bring their racing program forward at short notice" said Drag Racing Manager, Ray Treasure. "It is comforting to know that the Sport of Drag Racing works together for the betterment of the sport when issues come up. I'm just glad these changes are rare", Treasure added.
