West Australian Nitro Funny Car racer Allan Dobson will be competing in this weekend's Australian Top Fuel Championship round at Willowbank Raceway in Queensland after getting a call to drive for Santo Rapisarda.
Dobson will be driving the Uplift Cranes car which Scott Kalitta drove at the Boxing Day Top Fuel Challenge, setting new Australian standards of 4.51 seconds and 332mph. The car in fact ran three 4.5 second passes and two 330mph passes, as well as winning the event. The deal has been very quick and last minute and will see Dobson fly over to compete this Friday and Saturday. Dobson is renowned for his pedalling skills in Allan Greene's Greene Machine Nitro Funny Car but is also familiar with dragsters having raced Crank-N-Stein, also run by the Greene team.
