It was Allan Dobson taking a technical win in the Nitro Funny Cars at Perth Motorplex on Saturday night, with two excellent passes before some last round drama against Ricky Monserrat.

Dobson had a solo in the first round and made a good 5.59 pass that dropped a cylinder a quarter track. In the match up between Bailey and Monserrat, Monserrat was out hard going 2.45 to the 330 ahead of Bailey's 2.52, both on mid five second runs. Monserrat's Tectaloy Falcon shook the tyres viciously and threw him out of the groove just before half track and he shut down as Bailey got to half track in 3.64 seconds before a fuel line came off. Fortunately there was no fire and a 6.17 was a win for Bailey.

In round two Monserrat had to sit out with some shake damage to repair. Bailey and Dobson lined up in the twilight. Dobson came out first in the reaction time department and got away cleanly. Bailey came out on a mission, but when the richening failed in the motor it leaned out and kicked rods spectacularly about 150 feet out. What was amazing was that the car recorded 2.26 to 330 feet still, easily putting it on course for a 5.1/5.2 Dobson was able to carry through again for a 5.62/265.

With Bailey unable to return for the final round it left Monserrat and Dobson to do battle. Pushing curfew the cars started up but the Greene Machine had a freak problem with a gasket being sucked in to the motor as it started, meaning Monserrat had to go alone. The Tectaloy car came out with tyre shake again, Monserrat got off it at 60 feet, back on it again, more shake, off the throttle, on it again and so on about four times until the chutes came out at 1000 feet and a slow but spectacular 7.46 came up on the boards.

Unfortunately the Top Comp final was not run because of the curfew. Winners in other brackets included Mick Frossos in Super Comp, Greg Durack in Comp Bike, Darren White in Supercharged Outlaws, Jim Duffy in Modified, Ryan Moresby in Super Sedan, Adam Ewing in Modified Bike, Alby Bakranich in Super Street and Shane Weston in Junior Dragster.

Photos from the event will be coming soon.
