WSID RELEASE - Famed NHRA Funny Car driver and former Top Fuel driver, Scott Kalitta has recorded the quickest and fastest pass in Australian Drag Racing history with a 4.517 at 332.84MPH.
The incremental for the runs are as follows: 60 foot: .841, 330 foot: 2.159, 660 foot: 3.077/276.24MPH, 1000 foot: 3.849, E.T. 4.517, MPH: 332.84 “I enjoyed racing here last year. This year is even better. The track and the people associated with putting the event on are to be commended for their efforts. I am anxious to see what tomorrow will bring”, comments an elated Scott Kalitta. “I am so excited with the performances we have seen here tonight. There’s nothing like a late Christmas present”, exclaimed Jim Read, WSID CEO. Scott wasn’t the only car to make the illusive 4.50 range. Phil Read managed to clock a 4.57. “This is the best Christmas present anyone could have asked for. I was really surprised that we were the first ones to crack the magic 4.50 especially considering the caliber of drivers we have on hand”, said Phil Read. Aussie Dave Grubnic managed to clock a 4.848 seconds and qualifies in the third position. If today is anything to go by, tomorrow is going to be an absolute cracker. After tonight the biggest question of all is can we break into the 4.40’s? Jim Oberhoffer certainly thinks so. “We’re close now. It tossed the belt right at the end of the run. Close enough to the finish line to not hinder the E.T. or speed. I think tomorrow things are only going to get better”. In other action, Brett ‘The Boss’ Stevens leads the Top Alcohol field with a 5.61, while in the Top Doorslammer, no holds barred shootout Maurice Fabietti leads the field with a 6.29 in his immaculate Holden Genuine Parts Monaro. Final eliminations will commence tomorrow afternoon at 2PM, with Top Fuel running at 5, 7 and 9 PM. |
