Modified Bike rider Gordon Crawford has had a tough season so far with just one round win but is hoping things will be looking up with a new motor being slotted into the Cougar Racing Suzuki.
The motor change came from necessity rather than choice unfortunately with his last motor tearing apart from the top end down. "Only 30 feet from the finish line the bike went silent and it started to pull up like it was in reverse," he said. "At first we thought it was an ignition problem but a strip down revealed the timing chain had let go, ripping three teeth off the crankshaft drive gear, snapping both cams and bending a couple of valves. "The good news was I bought a GSXR 1200 motor from Glen Learmonth at the end of last season with the intention of fitting it for the 2007 season." With only two weeks between events Crawford was in a rush to fit the new motor but came through in time for the Goldenstate Challenge. While it was a learning curve first time out, Crawford improved at the Fast Friday last week when he recorded a new personal best time of 9.43sec. and went to a runner up spot. |
