WSID RELEASE - The Australian Top Fuel brigade is set to return to WSID for the second time this season. Speaking of seconds, this Boxing Day will mark the second running of the Skips Fire Service Boxing Day Bonanza once again with David Grubnic and Scott Kalitta as visitors.
Once again this year's Top Fuel Bracket is going to be sponsored by Skips F ire Service. Skips have been major supporters behind the WSID venue and behind the bracket of Top Fuel. "On behalf of the management at WSID we would once again like to welcome the return of Skips Fire Service to the biggest Top Fuel event ever seen in this country. I am sure that we will deliver pleasing results for Skips and other sponsors that are associated with the venue", comments, Denise Read, WSID Corporate Hospitality Manager. The biggest question that remains unanswered is who will win the 2006 edition of Boxing Day Bonanza? Last year it was an all team Kalitta final with Scott Kalitta taking the win with a 4.788/298.21 MPH pass to David Grubnic's 4.809/259.66 MPH pass. Both cars tossed the blower belts before the finish line. To say the least this was definitely a crowd pleasing pass. This pass also stood as the quickest side by side pass in Australian drag racing history at the time. Perhaps this year we could see an Aussie driver on top at the end of the two days of excitement. Once again WSID is confident that they can deliver a top-notch show to fans. "I am stoked to see the event being run again. Last year was a huge success and I have no doubt that this year is going to be the same" Remarked, John Henman, WSID Events Coordinator. Adding to the amazement of the event was the presence of Team Kalitta crew chief Jim Oberhoffer tuning both the Grubnic and Kalitta driven cars. Jim showed his talent by getting a 7,000 horsepower Top Fuel Dragster down the track on a 40 degree summers day. "I am thrilled to have David and Scott from Team Kalitta return to Australia for the biggest Top Fuel event in Australia for the year. If last year is anything to go by, then this year is definitely going to be a real cracker" remarked Jim Read WSID CEO Considering the caliber of cars entered for this event, fans have the potential to see Australia's quickest and fastest Top Fuel pass. The current record holder, Phil Read, holds the record with a 4.616 at 325.38 MPH. "I wouldn't be surprised if the record goes during the event. Considering the equipment David and Scott have at their disposal anything's possible" Phil Read commented. Without a doubt Boxing Day is an event that you can't afford to miss. Be sure to purchase your tickets before 5PM Tuesday, 19th December to allow for time to be sent out. These will make for the perfect Christmas gift. Tickets can also be picked up from the track before 5PM Friday, 22nd December. |
