Bailey takes out Steffens Print E-mail

Queenslanders Ashley Bailey and Ricky Steffens put on a spectacular show of Nitro Funny Car racing at Perth Motorplex on the weekend, with Bailey taking out the match race three-nil.

In race one Bailey led all the way, only having to abort his run early when his 5000 horsepower car started to get too close to the safety wall, still recording a 5.60sec. run.

Steffens appeared to be on his way to a win in race two when Bailey had troubles early but Steffens echoed Bailey's earlier run except he made contact with the wall, disqualifying him from the race.

With Bailey already having wrapped up the contest the final race was a dead rubber but it wasn't going to stop the two combatants fighting for the win.

Unfortunately Steffens had his motor drop a valve in the burnout, a lucky break considering if it had broken during a run it would have resulted in an engine explosion. Bailey meantime powered strong to half track before a supercharger belt broke, slowing him to a 5.87sec.

In the Top Comp category it was Aaron Deery securing victory in his dragster over Andrew Minogue driving a supercharged Ford Falcon.

There is now just one event remaining in the Perth Motorplex drag racing series with racers across nine categories vying for titles.

The last event will be on April 5, featuring USA Jet Dragsters.
