Michelle Osborn is a young lady who has an obsession for all things motorsport and is enjoying taking to the competition of the Junior Dragster field at Perth Motorplex.

The 16 year old student at Eastern Hills Senior High School and Helena Valley resident races one of the half scale dragsters, which race on an eighth mile (200 metre) track that they cover in times of 8.5sec., quicker than a HSV Commodore.

Osborn has had a tricky season so far and is still searching for her first win but with a new motor is hopeful she can find the form needed.

“We had trouble with the last engine we had but we got a lot of help and support from the other teams in trying to fix it,” she said. “I want to be a mechanic so I am learning as I go along.”

Osborn first became involved with drag racing when she went along to help her dad with another racer's car. This helped her learn about some of the mechanical skills involved and has set her on the trade's path – she is currently deciding whether to go for a heavy duty or light vehicle apprenticeship.

Racing has brought her some great friendships among the other competitors, which she says can make it difficult when it comes to race them.

“We're all friends out there, but at least when you race them you know one of you will keep going,” Osborn said.

With just one season left to go for her racing before she reaches the age limit for the Junior Dragsters, Osborn is currently deciding what she wants to race in the bigger categories.

“I'll definitely keep racing,” she said. “Just something to step up to and go quicker would be good.”

Motorsport is definitely her passion and when she's not drag racing she enjoys riding her quad motorbike or going to the speedway.
