Alice Springs Dragway nears completion Print E-mail

The Alice Springs Inland Dragway is powering towards its first event as work continues at an increasing rate on Central Australia’s first international standard drag strip. CADRA, the club responsible for the facility, has confirmed the target date for the grand opening meeting as Easter Saturday and Sunday 2008, which is just 9 weeks away!

The control tower is in place, the area beneath it has been concreted and conduits and draw wires for the power supply and communications systems are all installed. Work is also underway on the final wiring and preparation of the caretaker residence site.

The hotmix for the track surface has now been laid, and a chip seal surface will soon be applied to the braking area, return road and the pit area. The spectator mound is now irrigated and is covering nicely with grass.

Testing the drag strip is expected to commence in shortly but initially it will be daylight racing but as more funding is secured, the installation of track lighting will allow for night events to be held.
