WSID Full Throttle Fridays A Real Thrill For Racers Print E-mail

(Sydney, NSW) WSID RELEASE - Since the inception of the Full Throttle Friday night off-street meetings at WSID, the anticipation and eagerness among racers and spectators has been electric.

Unfortunately though, each event since the November 3 debut has been affected one way or another by weather.
"We've had everything: excessive winds, excessive temperatures, threatening clouds, rain, thunderstorms and lightning strikes on the horizon," said Events Coordinator John Henman, "all of which has made it near impossible to achieve our ambitions for the Full Throttle Friday events so far.
"For five or six weeks leading up to the debut of the Full Throttle Friday night meetings, we had to turn away sometimes more than 50 competitors before 7:00pm because we'd reached our entry limit of 180 competitors. There was clearly a strong demand for more racing opportunities that needed to be met, so we launched Full Throttle Friday."
Full Throttle Fridays are basically an extension of the WSID Wicked Wednesday off-street meetings, which are primarily offered as the safer and smarter alternative to street racing.
The Friday events though have some added bonuses for competitors and spectators alike, including no elapsed time restrictions and an invited group eight or 16 hand-picked Group Three and Group Four competitors who race for the Full Throttle Friday Invitational bragging rights.
The only restriction is that all vehicles, except those invited to compete in the Invitational, must have fully operational muffler systems.
Each Friday night we will select a group of either eight or 16 cars to come and join in the fun.
By doing this we intend to give the sportsman races the opportunity to get some extra track time outside of a normal championship round; the perfect opportunity for putting on a show for the fans.
