Exclusive: It's alive! Sheehan Nitro Altered debuts Print E-mail

The long awaited debut of Mark Sheehan's nitro Altered took place today at Perth Motorplex with the meanest machine on the planet getting in some first launches. wadragracing.com brings you the exclusive pics from the event.

Things started off with the basic blindfold test and making sure everything was working. There was a few minor issues with the oil tank pressurising but this was resolved and soon the car was ready to head out. Crew chief Rory Taylor's shirt says "Quitting is not an option", an adage the team will no doubt learn the meaning of!

The car gets towed out to the lanes...damn it looks tough.

First burnout! Performed very well, not too smoky mind you with no rubber on the track.

And the first launch! Nitro flames on an altered is incredible. This thing will look amazing at night. It's a bit fluffy on the left hand side but other than that a good launch. .98 to the 60 foot marker was a good start.

Second burnout here, note the screen had some stretch marks appearing in the centre from the previous run's violence.

Then it looked like a good start, flames on both sides, torquing the wheel up, even a good photo!

But then kaboom! It spun the rear wheels and popped the blower, ending the team's day. They will be back soon for more though. Please read next Wednesday's The West Australian newspaper for a full interview with Mark about his experiences. Discuss the car in the forums here
