Bishop flies into unknown Print E-mail

The World’s fastest Jeweller Stuart Bishop will be flying into the unknown when he jets to Perth later this week for the 2007 Golden State Titles at the Perth Motorplex this weekend.

As a debut campaigner at the West Australian facility, Stuart Bishop and his crew have had no data and no experience to rely on when preparing his impressive ’67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer for the third round of the ANDRA Australian Top Doorslammer drag racing championship.

Data or not, the relative rookie among the professional ranks is unperturbed as he looks to head West, confident of defending his second placing in the championship behind West Australian veteran John Zappia.

“The Diamond Dooorslammer is as ready as she will ever be, and is on her way to Perth as we speak - thanks to my fellow Doorslammer mate Tony Defelice who has lent me his flash trailer!” said Bishop.

“We don’t know what to expect, as we will be heading to the Perth Motorplex for the very first time.

“The game we are playing is just to go over there, put it down the track and gain some data, I will be happy just to make the field – anything more is a bonus!”

“The outright speed and consistency of the Diamond Doorslammer was just spectacular at Willowbank Raceway’s Nationals event in September and also in Sydney, so we are expecting to be able to punch out a high six second pass, put our heads down and just work at it.”

Bishop’s Diamond Doorslammer is bound to turn heads when it debuts in Perth as his trademark jeweller’s attention to detail can be fully appreciated by the immaculate, pristine condition of his Murray Anderson built Top Doorslammer.

Boasting 3500 horsepower courtesy of an expertly crafted USA Built Dave Riolo engine, the Queensland drag racing masterpiece has plenty of go to match the show, but it’s all the trimmings including a specially customised variable, that is bound to take the breath away of any avid appreciator of fine machinery in Western Australia.

Encased in the roof there are more than 540 cubic zirconia featured in a diamond configuration and incorporated among them is a half carat, 50-point diamond valued at more than $5000. A replica of that very diamond could be one lucky Perth fans to keep, simply by taking photos of all the action at the Kwinana Beach Motorplex.

Perth locals can become involved in the national Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic competition, which provides amateur and professional photographers the opportunity to win more than $20,000 in cash and prizes, simply by taking photos at their local drag racing track and entering them online at www.stuartbishopracing.com.au.

There are two categories available, one for the Diamond Doorslammer and one for drag racing across the board, with full details available at the website.

The Perth Motorplex 2007 Golden State Titles will see the stars of Top Doorslammer and Top Bike roll up for qualifying from 5.00pm on Friday and continued from 11.00am on Saturday, with early eliminations (racing) starting from 4.00pm Saturday.
