John Napier took out Top Comp on Saturday night at Perth Motorplex with his AA/FC running some near record times.
Napier defeated Adam Croker in the final when the new Top Alcohol Dragster fresh in from the states had some problems. It didn't stop Croker earlier who put in a 5.67 to top qualify, in AA/D trim! Top Comp - John Napier 6.31 def Adam Croker DNS Super Comp - Jodi Racco 9.88 def Patch Frossos DNS Racco took an easy win when Frossos had some troubles after the burnout. It was a reward for his consistency during the day. Allen Puglia's 7.83 in his new Ford Probe in qualifying was our highlight. Comp Bike - Neil Anderson 9.53 def Tim McClure 9.59 In an all B/SB match up Anderson took the win with a better reaction time helping him out. He ran an incredible 9.23 in qualifying on the Kawasaki. Best of the day? The three B/SBs all from different manufacturers running sub record times. That and Ross Smith running WA's first street bike eight with an 8.99 on his Hayabusa in A/SB. Outlaws - Ian Foster 7.80 def Steve McGrath 7.31 Foster ran almost dead on his dial in in the final and with a .021 reaction was unstoppable. Lindsay Catalano's 6.53 in the big Charger was the run of the event in Outlaws. Modified - Andrew Katavatis 8.68 def Mark Mackay 8.53 Katavatis had some problems and shut off early but Mackay didn't realise and broke out by a few hundredths. Only seven cars made the field with many racers having problems, not the least of whom was Brad Baker who put rods out of the engine. Super Sedan - Tyron Begg 10.27 def Greg Durtanovich DNS Durtanovich had some troubles on the start line resulting in another solo semi final. Begg took his car to the win, this was after it had a bingle with the wall last season, a good reward for some hard work. Modified Bike - Adam Ewing 8.54 def Tony Wood 9.42 National champion Ewing proved too good in the end, the pressure on Wood resulting in a red light. He will be tough to beat this season! Super Street - Michael Waters 11.12 def Alby Bakranich 10.98 A holeshot by Waters saw Bakranich pushed to a break out. Junior Dragster - Amy Kennedy 8.70 def Nicole Adamos 8.73 A red light from Adamos saw the win handed to Kennedy, who ran dead on her dial in! Seeing the massive field of JDs showed the future of the sport is strong. |
