The World's fastest jeweller Stuart Bishop has confirmed his ANDRA Australian Top Doorslammer drag racing championship aspirations by declaring his intention to nominate for a debut run at the Perth Motorplex during the 2007 Golden State Titles next month.

The Brisbane campaigner who is also the CEO of National jewellery chain Wallace Bishop Jewellers, has surprised many with his outright speed and consistency to be placed outright second behind clas sy West Australian veteran John Zappia.

Consecutive semi-finals appearances at Sydney's East Coast Nationals and the Australian Nationals at Queensland's Willowbank Raceway provides the perfect lead in to the WA assault on November 30/December 1.

The methodical approach of Bishop's early season campaign in his impressive '67 Camaro Diamond Doorslammer has been likened to a seasoned campaigner.

That perception belies the fact Bishop is a relative rookie among the professional ranks, enjoying just his second year of competition in the most elite of Australian drag racing.

"For me drag racing has always been about the enjoyment factor but I admit there's a lot more to enjoy when you're out there winning races," said Bishop.

"Our speed has been impressive and by gaining bonus points in the first round of the season, we've created a small buffer over Victor Bray and Steve Stanic.

"It's exciting to think that I'm currently mentioned in the same breath as these guys who are Australian and World Champions in their own right.

"I have a lot to be thankful for, none the least a hard working and extremely competitive crew who are continually working on the car to have it raring to go on race day."

Bishop's Diamond Doorslammer is bound to turn heads when it debuts in Perth as his trademark jeweller's attention to detail can be fully appreciated by the immaculate, pristine condition of his Murray Anderson built Top Doorslammer.

Boasting 3500 horsepower courtesy of an expertly crafted USA Built Dave Riolo engine, the Queensland drag racing masterpiece has plenty of go to match the show.

But it's all the trimmings including a specially customised variable, that is bound to take the breath away of any avid appreciator of fine machinery in Western Australia.

Encased in the roof there are more than 540 cubic zirconia featured in a diamond configuration and incorporated among t hem is a half carat, 50-point diamond valued at more than $5000.

A replica of that very diamond could be one lucky Perth fans to keep, simply by taking photos of all the action at the Kwinana Beach Motorplex next month.

"Another exciting thing about racing in Perth will be the opportunity for locals to be better informed about the national Wallace Bishop Jewellers Photographic competition that we're running again.

"Amateur and professional photographers have the opportunity to win more than $20 000 in cash and prizes simply by taking photos at their local drag racing track and entering into the competition online at www.stuartbishopracing.com.au

"You'll find all the details of the competition online but in a nutshell there are two categories, one for the Diamond Doorslammer and one for drag racing across the board.

"I hope Perth locals support this initiative which is designed solely for me to be able to give something back to a sport that continues to provide me so much joy."
