Hamilton’s Holden hits form In the tough competition of Top Doorslammer racing it can be difficult for a privateer team to get a break but Peter Hamilton and the Street Quick team has shown it can be done. The Holden Statesman doorslammer is right up with WA’s quickest, having run a best time of 6.12sec. at 380km/h, that’s better than any other non-travelling team in the series. Hamilton says the competition in Top Doorslammer is hot at the moment. “It’s bloody good,” he said, “Anyone can win you just need luck on your side, you still need the good numbers though.” Hamilton was a relative late starter in drag racing, beginning at the age of 40 when he ran the Street Quick team’s original car in Super Stock. He has been along for the ride for the 11 years since. The team’s current Holden Statesman runs with a carbon fibre body and Whipple supercharger. Hamilton says the Whipple combination, not as popular as the PSI superchargers, is just as good and has benefits maintenance wise. Hamilton says that his main duty in the team is as driver, though he does become labour when the team is up against a tough turn around. “We’ve got the car to run very consistent this year,” he said, “The new supercharger has helped and the ignition is making more power, it’s just getting the power to the ground.” Hamilton says the team has 6.0sec. passes on the agenda and a trip east to show some of the big boys what the west can do. PAC v BAR-B at Drag Combat Drag Combat presented by BF Goodrich is proud to announce the appearance of the PAC Performance Mazda MX-6 and the Queen Street Smash Repairs Bar- B BMW at Quit Motorplex on April 23. This is the first time that either car has raced in WA with both teams looking forward to meeting all their Perth fans. Both cars are of show standard with BAR-B reaching Auto Salon car show God status. Never have the two cars met in competition. Currently the PAC MX-6 is the quicker and faster of the two, having run 7.04sec. at 320km/h with it’s twin turbo 20B rotary motor. The Queen St BMW. The quad rotary engine now features a huge single turbo making around 1600 hp and has run as quick as 7.29sec. at 308km/h. In addition to the match race Drag Combat will also feature some of WA’s quickest and fastest import-powered competition cars in Combat Xtreme as well as Japanese performance street cars, show cars, bikini babes and a burnout competition. Championships in balance Several state championships hang in the balance going into the final event of the nine round season this Saturday. Top Comp sees Wayne Keys and the StaffTek Monaro leading by just five points from Altered racer Trevor Morrison. Morrison will also have to keep one eye on Murray O’Connor who can still take second under the right circumstances. David James has a 20 point advantage over Steve McGrath in Supercharged Outlaws, McGrath has to win the A Final to stand a chance, James just needs to stand his ground. Super Street is the tightest category of all with Neil Scott and Alby Bakranich tied on points. Bakranich has taken three event wins this season but a couple of first round exits have hurt him, Scott’s more consistent performance sees the two level. The Rookie of the Year title sees Krystal Ecclestone with a good lead over James Duffy, both racing in Modified. Ryan Learmonth has the Rookie Rider of the Year contest all but sewn up. Jets set for take off The Grand Final of the WA drag racing season will be held this Saturday with the jet cars the feature of the event. Australian Gary Miocevich will take on American Chuck Haynes for national pride, with Miocevich having hotted up his own car while Haynes has been away. We assume Haynes will know about this, considering he owns both cars, but it probably depends on how much Miocevich wants to win. The supercharged action of Top Comp will kick off racing at 6:00pm with the jets making three appearances during the night, www.motorplex.com.au for details. |
