Rowland makes the switch Print E-mail

Stuart Rowland will be changing from his traditional Funny Car body to the open Altered style in an effort to be more competitive this season in Top Comp.

The move allows him to change his classing in the category and get a softer handicap on which to race.

After a difficult last season suffering main bearing problems, Rowland is hoping some gains can be made this time around.

"There's no real tricks with the engine, last season was spent chasing the bearing issues and we did not get a chance to try some ideas that I already had," he said. "Now with the re-body we will have our hands full I'm sure. The car should be a little lighter so this may help performance time wise."

Rowland says that if the record for AA/Altered stays in tact he would like to reset it come the Westernationals.

A new crankshaft and clutch is going into the motor to freshen it up for the season.

Unfortunately Rowland does not see himself racing in the Top Alcohol round due to the extra licence costs.

"I doubt it very much that we will race Group One again, this is just purely a financial issue," he said. "I simply can't afford to pay the extra $1000 required to hold my Group One license for just one meeting, the funds are needed in other areas."
