Peter Kapiris took out the Top Doorslammer category at the Goldenstate Challenge at Perth Motorplex on Saturday, defeating Gary Phillips in the final of a dramatic event.

Victorian Kapiris had a winning time of 6.33sec., but it was more than enough as Phillips had broken part of his supercharged in the burnout, meaning his Lucas Oils Studebaker was virtually powerless.
Kapiris didn't get things easy in the lead up to the final, having to defeat legends John Zappia and Victor Bray.
It has been a long time coming for Kapiris who has struggled to regain his 2002/2003 championship winning form.
However with WA crew chief Greg Gower on hand Kapiris has been able to build back up to the potential he knew his car had.
While happy with the win, he was quick to note the significance of beating home town hero Zappia.
"I'm really, really sorry for beating John Zappia," he said after the race.
"I thought the crowd was going to boo me on the way back!"
Phillips was not too concerned about his loss, just happy to use the Perth bonus points to boost his series hopes.
"As soon as I did the burnout I knew what had broken," he said.
"The rest of the weekend was good and we should be looking alright in the championship now."
The next round of the Australian Top Doorslammer Championship will be held in Sydney in February.
