The ACDelco East Coast Nationals – the launchpad for the 2007-2008 ANDRA Championship Drag Racing season has been completed today at Western Sydney International Dragway in front of a large and vocal crowd. West Aussie Fireman Allan Dobson has continued his fairytale by defeating torrid rival Phil Read in the Skips Fire Service Top Fuel final, where Read lost traction early, leaving Dobson to power to the win. John Zappia once again dominated Top Doorslammer at his signature event and defeated a quick Victor Bray in a worthy battle of the legends. Zappia had tongues wagging as he methodically went about grabbing early championship points - first by Top Qualifying with a 5.98 second pass then working his way through eliminations with a 6.031, 6.006 and a final round 5.965 victory over 6 times champion Victor Bray who ran a solid 6.04 beside Zappia. Fellow West Australian Robin Judd qualified in the ultra tough Top Doorslammer category with a 6.14 - a feat in itself - before exiting in the semi finals. Defending Top Bike champion Jay Upton did not qualify - starting on the back foot after arriving in Sydney to find his container had been damaged leaving what he referred to as "Motorcycle soup" inside. Mark Drew - who won at his last appearance at Western Sydney at the May Nitro Champs also failed to qualify.
