The National Control Council of ANDRA conducted their 2007 Annual General Meeting in Adelaide on Friday, August 10th.
CEO Tony Thornton announced the previous year had been a positive yet challenging period for the sport and the Association. Membership of ANDRA had continued to grow, with a national increase of 6.9% to a total of 3651 with permanent licence holders up by 9.6% at 3386. Highest growth areas were South Queensland and New South Wales and nationally, since 1999, ANDRA membership has grown by a staggering 161%. A survey completed in recent months had revealed the value of drag racing hardware in Australia now exceeded $400,000,000, with a further $40,000,000 invested annually in racing related expenses. Financially, ANDRA turnover increased by 3.2% to $1,109,598 and a consolidated surplus of $255,399 (23%) was recorded at June 30th, 2007. ANDRA Drag Racing took place at 7 permanent quarter-mile tracks, 7 permanent eighth-mile tracks and 12 temporary eighth-mile venues in the 2006/2007 period. A total of 357 events were staged. 7 other sites are pending. On the matter of the status of ANDRA and the plan to register the association as a company limited by guarantee, the process is not straightforward under the South Australian legislation. As well, there may be no opportunity to seek member agreement for the special resolution required through a formal mail vote. Options are being developed to progress the matter directly through the South Australian authority. Two vacant positions on the ANDRA Interim Board were not filled and the National Control Council, which includes all existing members, will meet in early November 2007 to further address the status of the organisation and initiate further strategic planning in the areas of governance, and future directions for the organisation and the sport. No increases were made to licence or membership fees in view of the introduction of the Drag Racing Development Fund. Total expenditure on Divisional and Stewards operations was increased and a budget producing a neutral outcome was accepted. Additional funds for increased public relations and media liaison, over and above potential funding through the Drag Racing Development Fund were also approved. South Australian Division Director Harry White was elected as Executive Director, the deputy position to the CEO. Northern Australian Division Director David Barrett was appointed as the Alternate to that position. Tony Thornton was re-appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer. The ANDRA Championship Calendar for the period August 31st, 2007 to June 10th, 2008 was ratified. Dates for administrative meetings in November 2007, February 2008, April 2008 and August 2008 were accepted. The 2008 Annual General Meeting of the National Control Council, notwithstanding any status changes to the organisation in the interim was scheduled for August 8th, 2008. |
