Supercharged Outlaws racers Tony and Gillian Argentino have taken delivery of a new race car for this season. It is a 1936 Chevrolet Master-bodied car imported from America, where it was raced under the theme of "The Hitman" due to its outrageous mafia-themed paint scheme. The body is all carbon fibre, hiding a chrome moly chassis which took the car to a best time of 6.30sec. at 354kmh in the states. The Argentino team said the car would not run quite as quick here with a smaller 442cu. in. engine combination prepared by Kwinana Performance to provide motivation, but it will still be enough to power driver Tony towards the championship. They still expected better times than their former 1934 Ford-based race car however, with a new supercharger coming on board, a different fuel system and slightly better aerodynamics. The car was one the Argentino team immediately fell in love with. "I found the car by accident after searching for a body," said Gillian. "In a moment of sheer madness I rang Tony at work to tell him I had found our new car. "Not that Tony needed any convincing, it was a new race car with suspension, a Chevy hot rod body and cool paint job, he was sold in the ten seconds it took him to read the ad." The team was sad to see their old car move on. "It has been good to us and given Steve Igglesden's (late drag racing veteran) involvement in the build it was a tough decision," said Gillian. The new car will debut just in time for the 2007/2008 season at Perth Motorplex. "We hope we can get The Hitman into the very low 7sec. area," said Gillian. "We are expecting to be ready for a private testing and licensing day sometime in September."
