Lynch mobs Willowbank Print E-mail

There'll be a multitude of world class drag racers assembled for next weekend's Castrol EDGE Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway and one of the more determined and focused will be Brisbane's Aaron Lynch, who'll undertake a multiple bracket campaign. After experiencing the highs of securing a world speed record in Top Doorslammer a little over 12 months ago, the nuggety driver has since had to juggle his commitments between his more regular ride, plus oversee a top level Nat ional campaign in his B+L Steel supported Top Alcohol funny car.

The pressure has told a little throughout season 2006/07 and the results have been disappointing to the driver's usual high standards, but Lynch sees a light at the end of the tunnel in the form of the biggest drag race event outside North America.

"After so many low points this season we can put it all behind us with a solid result at the Winternationals. There's no better place to get everything in order for a fresh start towards next season," said Lynch.

"This was our first full season juggling Top Doorslammer and the Funny Car so it really was all about learning as much as we could in Top Alcohol.

"We dropped the ball early and found ourselves playing catch up from then on but have since refined our whole operation and got back on top of things."

Lynch left nothing to chance in his quest to be the best in Top Doorslammer, squeezing a grueling three seasons worth of testin g into three months at Willowbank Raceway last year.

The net result was his recording of Queensland's first ever and only sub-six second quarter mile pass for the category at a world record speed of 245.77mph (393.23km/h)

Such persistence is trademark of the Lynch attitude and it's that sort of temperament that has him as a definite contender during the Castrol EDGE Winternationals.

"The thing with the Winternationals is that it takes place in the biggest and best drag racing arena in Australia and every single driver from throughout the country wants to win it.

"That makes this one even more special and being our home track there'd be nothing better than having that winner's trophy tucked under your arm.

"We've got the team, machinery and the personnel to win and we'll definitely be giving it a red hot go in both Top Doorslammer and Top Alcohol."

For sports fans World-wide the familiar crackle of Australia's most high-powered drag racing machines can't come soon enough as Willowbank Raceway again showcases the best of quarter mile drag racing duels.

This iconic, home-grown Queensland entertainment masterpiece continually serves up first class, magical moments particularly in the closely contested Group One professional categories.

The way season 2006/07 has transpired there's little doubt among fans, officials or racers themselves that the 2007 Castrol EDGE Winternationals will provide another fine chapter in Australian drag racing.
