Prendergast has overseen the continued development of the Perth Motorplex as one of Australia's more innovative multiuse sporting venues.

The 56-year-old Prendergast moved to Australia from his native New Zealand in 1970 and while he has spent a significant part of his adult life in Australia a large part of his family still reside in New Zealand.

It is these strong family ties that have led Prendergast to make the difficult decision to vacate the General Managers position.

"In recent months I have been flying to and from New Zealand to tend to family matters and I came to realise that I needed to make this difficult decision sooner rather than later" Prendergast stated.

He continued, "There is never a good time, but we have just completed another successful season and this timing gives the board of the Perth Motorplex the longest time possible to adjust the management structure for the start of the new season in September".

"The Perth Motorplex Board is skilled and professional, the staff are great and I have enjoyed working with them ….we are really close professionally and personally", Prendergast added.

Perth Motorplex Director Gary Miocevich said "We completely understand Kevin's position and we support his reasons for going back the New Zealand however we are close and I'm sure we'll continue to support each other into the future.

"The board will consider the management structure necessary to ensure that the Perth Motorplex continues to be one of Australia's best run Motorsports venues over the next week" Miocevich added.

Prendergast first became involved in Motorsport as the West Australian Division Director for the Australian National Drag Racing Association before becoming a partner with Miocevich, in Western Australia's only drag racing facility Ravenswood Raceway.

In the period between 1983 and 2003 Prendergast held senior management roles at Ravenswood Raceway, Sydney's Eastern Creek and Phillip Island in Victoria prior to the return to Western Australia to the Perth Motorplex.
