In winning Dobson became the first West Australian to ever win a Top Fuel event.

“I was gobsmacked, it was unreal,” he said.

“I just believed I could win, and that belief came true. It was a full field of high class cars which made it even better.”

Dobson defeated Luke Shepherd, Phil Read and Steve Read en route to taking out the event, running as quick as 4.68sec.

 Meantime in nitro racing on two wheels it was Mark Drew reigning supreme as he managed to take out some of Australia's heavy hitters to win in Top Bike.

Drew qualified in second place aboard the nitro Harley with a 6.66sec. time, which some might see as a bad omen, but for the team it was a personal best run.

He won the final over Troy McLean with a 6.67sec. run.

 West Australian Martin Stamatis ran his first event in Top Fuel at the Nitro Champs event and finished well with a semi finals appearance.

 Super Sedan racer Shane Wynd was progressing well at the Nitro Champs until a red light in the third round ended his chances.
