History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/22 19:13
Does anyone have any history or pictures of a T Bucket with Buck & Barrell on the side, was Holden six powered and last run in 1984 at Ravenswood? Thanks in advance

Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/22 23:51
Horse,
This T Bucket was raced by "Barrell" (Kim Scott) who lived just south of Bunbury (half way to Capel). He raced it with Rabbit who also had a 6cyl altered that I purchased as a roller way back in the early 80's.
The last time I saw the car it still had the GMH 6 in it but Barrell also had a V6 Chev in pieces to go into it. It had a rebuilt clutchflight as I had broken mine then broke Barrell's and pieced one good one back together.
Barrell is a welder by trade and has done a number of race cars including the chassis welding on "Mad Max 2", Trev Morrison's 2nd altered that still holds the CC/A record.
Barrell's folks sold their property in the SW and I think the car ended up in a Wreckers in Bunbury for many years. The name of the wreckers escapes me at the moment but the bloke who owned it raced a Dragster in Top Comp a few years back (Wreckreation).
Trevor Morrison may be able to give some more info as he was racing his altered at this time and he went from 6 to V8 and some of the parts ended up in Rabbit and Barrells cars.
Has the car turned up somewhere?
Hope this helps.
Regards
Rhett

Good to hear horse! It's neat to start seeing more restored cars around the place.

Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/23 13:15
Ive just inspected and bought this car its in reasonable condition considering its age, I will be completely stripping and rebuilding it back to how it ran at Ravenswood. I would very much appreciate any photos or extra information anyone may have. Rhett do you know what times it used to do and when it was built? I reckon this car would have been alot of fun to drive with the short wheelbase. I will post some photos over the weekend and may even do some progress shots as I progress over the next year.

Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/23 20:44
Horse, I will be glad to help put it back to it's original glory. From Memory it ran low 11's but I will be having a few coldies with Trev at the Westside wind up on Sat so we will piece together the history and I will be in touch.
You are right they were fun to ride in. With the Clutch flight the deal was only clutch off the line and then select 2 & 3 in motion, no clutch. 5000rpm and dump it... Heee Harr and hang on.
I will chase up some photos as there are bound to be some in one of our collections.

Darrin it came as a roller so I am in need of an engine even if its just to use for a dummy up, I have your number so will call tommorrow. I also need manifolds and carbs anybody. Rhett the gearbox came with the car and I would be happy to pay for your time to strip and inspect or repair if needed. Rhett the, 5000rpm dump it... heee harr and hang on is one of the reasons for purchasing this car, I wonder if that is why it was named BuckinBarrell!

If this is the car I think it is, it started life as Mandy Acaraci's car before becoming the first Cleveland Express in the late 70s with a 302 and clutch flight.

If this is the same car, the photo is one of its first outings as the Cleveland Express.
I would like to see some photos of the chassis that you have to confirm it.
The body that on the car in this picture is the one that is on Rhett's car now.

Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/26 22:52
Darryl351 you may be correct (a side on shot would help), the rollcage looks identical and it still has the four mounts for a wing, also has a metal tab with a hole welded on about 200mm down from the right hand side wing mount which I can just see in your photo. The body around the cockpit area is not as raised but otherwise similar. Front end looks the same but back then they were probably all like that. The wheelbase on the car I have is 2400mm. I had no luck trying to load photos yesterday so emailed them to Luke.

Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/27 18:51

Here are a couple more photos of the car, may help identify it.
The body in the pictures is not the body that would be on the car now, the body in the pictures is actually on Rhett's car now.
The tab with the hole in it on the roll cage was for the parachute release.
Yes the car is running in the rain in the picture, it was at Ravenswood back in 1980. Drag Racing was very different back in those days. Last photo above is the car on a run on the wet track.

I remember seeing that car in a fairly complete stage late in the 1990's it had a hilbourne?? mechanical six trumpet injection on it. At the time a couple of sppedway cowboys where dreaming about racing it. If I remember correctly (lots of cans since those days) that the catalanos ended up with the clutchfight out of it.The car was stored at the picton auto wreckers in Bunbury. If you can get hold of Bill Bowman he owned that wrecking yard. He his a mechanic at either nissan or mitsubishi in bunbury. Definately was a cool thing

Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/27 20:12
Darryl351 Im pretty sure the chassis I have is the chassis in the photo you have posted. I just need Luke to post up the photos or could someone email me with some instructions so I can put them up. Once I have confirmed which car I actually have then some history would be greatly appreciated. Did the Cleveland Express or the BuckinBarrell cars have any significant history, or are they in fact the same car? Im confused. Re:History wanted Ravenswood T Bucket - 2008/05/27 20:37
Daryl, I was digging up the past on the Buckin Barrell with Trev on Sat night and he told me it was the first car he got started with in partnership with Barrell at the ripe old age of 17 years old. Who did you sell the clev express to? I have the front wheels in the pictures you posted and they came off one of Trevor's cars. The only thing hat surprises me is that Iggy never owned it as every other car in WA seemed to pass through his hands. We are digging up some photos we have from a car show in Bunbury in 84.
