A few basics of the little scale stuff.
Slot car drag racing is very similar to the real thing, with all Pro Tree and Full Tree lights used for each class. A more thorough explanation of those is to be found on the http://www.xsrdragracing.com/startingout.htm page created by one of our guys.
Speeds and ETs vary from class to class, on a 44 foot track (scale 1000ft in 1/24.) ETs can go from 1 full second to anywhere up to 4 tenths of a second (fastest ET recorded was by Miyagi himself at 0.398 at 105mph). Typical MPH can vary from 30MPH to around 70MPH for a typical car. The ultimate class (AA/FC) can see higher ET and MPH, as you can see by the above example.
There are currently only two commercial raceways operating a scale dragstrip. There is Checkered Flag Slotcar Raceway in Maddington (which runs a scale 1/8th mile every Thursday evening from 7pm) and there is XLR8 Raceway in Bibra Lake, which is currently building up a scale 1000ft track which is not operational at the moment. There is also a non-commercial track operating a scale 1000ft track most Friday evenings (send an email to me and I'll give more details on that.
The type of classes are more often than not differentiated by bodyshape and motor. There is a Ready To Run class available for Parma Edge chassis, which is a good budget way of getting into hobby. TA/FC is currently the most expensive class most people are able to get into, although of course AA/FC goes one step further...
Plus they are good for laugh when the need to destroy an old motor comes along...
OK, any questions at the back?
