The "How/Where To" Thread - 2007/10/25 12:06 A few basics of the little scale stuff.

Slot car drag racing is very similar to the real thing, with all Pro Tree and Full Tree lights used for each class. A more thorough explanation of those is to be found on the http://www.xsrdragracing.com/startingout.htm page created by one of our guys.

Speeds and ETs vary from class to class, on a 44 foot track (scale 1000ft in 1/24.) ETs can go from 1 full second to anywhere up to 4 tenths of a second (fastest ET recorded was by Miyagi himself at 0.398 at 105mph). Typical MPH can vary from 30MPH to around 70MPH for a typical car. The ultimate class (AA/FC) can see higher ET and MPH, as you can see by the above example.

There are currently only two commercial raceways operating a scale dragstrip. There is Checkered Flag Slotcar Raceway in Maddington (which runs a scale 1/8th mile every Thursday evening from 7pm) and there is XLR8 Raceway in Bibra Lake, which is currently building up a scale 1000ft track which is not operational at the moment. There is also a non-commercial track operating a scale 1000ft track most Friday evenings (send an email to me and I'll give more details on that.

The type of classes are more often than not differentiated by bodyshape and motor. There is a Ready To Run class available for Parma Edge chassis, which is a good budget way of getting into hobby. TA/FC is currently the most expensive class most people are able to get into, although of course AA/FC goes one step further...

Plus they are good for laugh when the need to destroy an old motor comes along...

OK, any questions at the back?

Re:The "How/Where To" Thread - 2007/10/25 14:28 Oh, Oh, I have a question.

In your 1/24 scale world, are the Fords still faster, are there owners better looking and are the girls who like them easier to talk to than the Chevy mob?????

Re:The "How/Where To" Thread - 2007/10/25 21:39 Tell me how you are getting along Stu and there's your answer.

I found the winningest car I have is a Mustang. My favourite is one of the General's finest and the burnout car I use now is a 300C. I wussed out of that question very well I thought.

PS Hey Stu, got a pic of your two cars? I can't seem to find any of either...

Re:The "How/Where To" Thread - 2007/10/26 12:07 Ford vs Chev..........they're all very quick race cars underneath the plastic shell!

Really, whatever track you go to, guys there are happy to pass on whatever knowledge they have. People will put together any car you want..... from a little screamer to a very quick, high performance car.

This sport is very big in America where racers drop in a new donk for every pass and travel from state to state, racing in the big events!

Re:The "How/Where To" Thread - 2007/11/01 13:41 I shall only listen to Chad when everyone else does...

Love the photo you sent of Craig in the Fueller. How many container loads has he sent back so far?

Re:The "How/Where To" Thread - 2007/11/01 13:47 Well dave he is just like a big kid in a candy store.
He said the reima motor show took two days to go around and he said you could put it in perth and there would be no room.

He had One of the drag guys at the show tap him on the shoulder because he was wearing his drag shirt.
They have lots of phot's with the drivers and he reckons he has spent so much money.

He goes to Gary Denshams for tea next week. So that will be fun.

He said the drivers at the drags wanted to give them pistons and stuff from the cars even wheeled out a rear tyre. But he said he couldn't get it in his suitcase.
