Geez, sorry about the delay folks. The file took ages to render. It's 8mins 40 secs long, and includes a couple of start-ups as well. Sorry I can't provide any nitro smells to enhance the experience, but anywayz, here it is...

Mark Sheehan today debuted his brand new nitromethane burning altered drag racing machine. The body on this wild car is based around an early 1920's style T-bucket, and has been meticulously curved and shaped in carbon fiber to match the swoopy front wing, and massive triple element rear top fuel wing.

The car is an ex John Force Mustang Funny Car that has been transformed into a Nitro Altered since its arrival down under, and the Perth based team has got plans to run this beast as a Nitro Funny Car as well in the near future.

Today's debut as a Nitro Altered resulted in a good 60-foot launch on their first run earlier in the day before the heat kicked in, and the team who usually race in the alcohol division got familiar with what it was like to play with nitromethane. A turn around on the car saw a couple of engine sleeves replaced, and it was back out for the second of three planned runs. As the climbing 35-degree afternoon heat scorched down on the track however, Sheehan's second run resulted in instant tyre smoke, and the car over revved and burst the supercharger off, and broke the inlet manifold as well as also damaging some other componentry in the process, so the third run never happened.

The team plan to fully license this car in the near future however, so stay tuned as this nitro breathing nostalgic retro modern machine and man both get used to each other... Phil Blondel.

Re:Mark Sheehan's Nitro Altered - 2007/12/23 20:55 I’ve been doing some thinking and wonder if some one could fill me in for Sheehan’s nitro altered is it the nitro engine in his alkey altered or is it a different car all together. And if it is a different car is the funnycar just the second altered changed to fit the funnycar shell.

Mark bought a new VICTORY chassis that was supposed to be for Force but was on the shelf at Victory. This chassis was built as the original small block AA/A. The hemi was obtained later and the car ran 5.69 on both sides of the country.

RORY owned the PLUEGER chassis (which was the Gower 5 sec car)

The PLUEGER was then reworked and turned into the current AA/A that was runner up at the Alcohol round

The VICTORY was then reworked again and put into NITRO form as both the altered and with a body change, the MUSTANG funny car.

The body is a Castrol Syntec Rousch mustang used by Tony Pedragon to win a world championship.

Nothing was bought in complete form from the US, only as parts. Eg the blocks cranks and manifolds came from BILL MILLER and the heads etc came from FORCE with many parts from many places.

The chassis reworking etc and all building of parts etc was all done in Perth by the many people that it takes to bring a dream together

Hope this helps clear things up.

Ps. It would be much easier to buy a complete car with all the stuff needed to run the car. I might be able to help any one of you do just that, now let me tell you about a nice Top Fuel Dragster I would be willing to sell for a good price……
